Game 5: Rangers 5, Devils 3…

…and it’s Rangers in 5. I attended the opening of The First Saturday in May on Friday night, and as the movie ended and John Hennegan opened the Q&A segment, he announced that the Rangers were up 3-1 (having seen the movie twice before, I was tempted to check the score on my little portable radio as the film was screening…but I resisted). By the time we all made it to the bar around the corner, the second period was wrapping up and it was Ranger 4, Devils 3. Two bourbons, a Lundqvist save on a penalty shot, and a snub by the classless Martin Brodeur later, it was over: Ranger 5, Devils 3. A spring night in New York City, a terrific movie about horse racing, a Rangers’ series win over the Devils, and bourbon with good friends: really, who could ask for anything more?

It has been a great month – three days at Keeneland and the Rangers in five over the Devils. I was one of those in Newark wearing blue while cheering the Rangers from the opening warmups through the playing of the song CLOSING TIME at the Prudential Center!!
