Unintended implication

Got an e-mail yesterday from NYRA titled “Ladies Handicap—Sweet Goodbye.”

That’s nice, I thought; NYRA recognizes the importance of the race and is going to acknowledge that it may not be run again.

Silly me.

Sweet Goodbye, trained by Christopher Grove, drew the four hole and will be ridden by Juan Acosta.

The good news is that despite warnings to the contrary, the Ladies Handicap drew a field of seven and will, in fact, be run on Sunday. At least it gets one more shot before it disappears into racing history. And Sweet Goodbye is clearly the hunch bet of the day.

On Saturday, two Brooklyn Backstretch favorites, Be Bullish (4 – 1) and Numaany (5 – 1) go head to head in the sixth race; neither is entered for a tag. I’ll miss the race, as I’ll be at the Anna House holiday party, but a little exacta box for sentimentality’s sake will be in order, if I can get it in before heading to Belmont.

If you’re a fan of Lost in the Fog, you’ve got yet another reason to purchase John Corey’s DVD about the horse; the director has offered Brooklyn Backstretch readers a 10% discount. You can buy the DVD at the movie’s website, and enter code TBA1208.

ReRun, the New Jersey based Thoroughbred adoption organization, writes to let us know of holiday shopping opportunities, including A.P. Indy mug Moneighs and print reproductions of drawings by artist Richie Burch of Invasor, Barbaro, and Big Brown. Proceeds of all sales benefit ReRun.

Frank of That’s Amore Stable writes about some of his favorite horses, and asks about yours. Stop by and leave a comment.

  1. Thank you so much for reminding me about the Lost in the Fog movie. The last time I checked the DVD wasn’t yet available so I’ll certainly be getting a copy. The 10% is just an added bonus. =)
