Belmont day in photos

Some of my favorite moments from Belmont ’09, in pictures…

The fabulous Fabulous Strike in the post parade…

…and winning…

…in this time, over a “good” track…which became “fast” moments after this race was official….

Diamondrella…

…followed by Forever Together, which made my exacta pay much better than the other way around…

Munnings is flying, without the weight of a single dime of my money on his back…

Minutes before the Belmont post parade, this horse gets loose from his pony and escapes over the infield, over the backstretch, and was last seen making his way over the backside parking lot…

How gorgeous is Dunkirk? How can something this slight go so fast?

They’re off in the Belmont!

My exacta is losing by a nose…

…and now by something more significant…

…and (relief) now it’s official, and the winner heads for his carnations.

One more race to go, in Belmont late afternoon sunshine…

…before Belmont ’09 comes to a close…but there’s…

…one more stop to make before heading out…Barn 18, and the Belmont winner (sorry for those flashed eyes)…who is clearly…

…loving this evening attention…

Congratulations to Summer Bird, Drs. Jayamaran, Tim Ice, and Kent Desormeaux…

Based on the angle of your images you had a much better vantage point than I did. I didn't get a seat his yaer and watched the last 2 Stakes races from the Apron. I thought my height would work for me, but once people started to stand on the benches, etc, the action from the turn home till about the final 100 yards was lost for me. But being down in the crowd like that was really exciting, and given the race call and people calling out around me I was able to construct a pretty vivid picture in my mind.

Watching that horse float up, up, and away was pretty cool…once we realized that it wasn't going to land on the track.

BSaint: I was between 1/16 and finish line, third floor–exactly what I'd requested. Seats were terrific.

    Thanks for reading and commenting!
