For a niche sport that often begs for media attention, Thoroughbred horse racing got a lot of it—not all welcome—in 2012.
The highly anticipated Luck, directed by Michael Mann, produced by David Milch, and starring Dustin Hoffman, debuted on HBO in January to mixed reviews. The network announced a second series at the end of January, but in the wake of news that three horses had died during production, filming of the second series was abruptly cancelled.
